How much luggage actually fits

Realistic luggage capacity by vehicle class, and what to tell us when you are carrying more than bags.

3 min read

Published capacity is optimistic

Manufacturer luggage figures assume bags are stacked perfectly and nobody is sitting in the third row. Real capacity is lower once the seats are full.

We quote the realistic figure: three cases for a premium SUV, six for a full-size SUV with the third row folded, and about one case per passenger in a Sprinter.

Carry-on versus checked

A checked case takes roughly twice the space of a carry-on. Four carry-ons fit where two large cases would not, so tell us the mix rather than just a number.

Awkward items

Skis, golf clubs, instruments, camera cases, pushchairs and wheelchairs all need planning. Mention them when you book and we will assign a vehicle that takes them without stacking bags on seats.

For film and production crews, tell us the case count and we will send a Sprinter rather than three sedans.
