Long distance by car versus flying

When a chauffeured car beats a short flight once airport time, security and connections are counted.

Count door to door

A 70-minute flight is rarely 70 minutes. Add the drive to the airport, the recommended arrival time, security, boarding, taxiing and the drive at the other end. On many regional routes a car leaves at the time you would otherwise be checking in.

Where the car usually wins

Journeys under about four hours of driving, trips with several people, days with luggage or equipment, and late finishes after the last flight has gone.

Where flying still wins

Coast to coast, and any journey over roughly six hours of driving where a morning flight saves most of a working day. We will say so if you ask.

Working on the way

Wi-Fi and charging at every seat means a long drive can be a working morning. That is the part a flight cannot offer between gate and gate.
