Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix
The Miami Grand Prix is run on a temporary circuit around Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, a long way north of where most visitors actually stay. The racing is in one place and the week's parties and dinners are in another.
That split is the defining transport problem here: a thirty-minute drive on paper between Miami Beach and the circuit becomes considerably more on race days, in both directions, at exactly the times everyone needs to travel.
Getting Around Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix
The circuit is not in Miami Beach
Hard Rock Stadium is in Miami Gardens. Most visitors stay in South Beach, Brickell or the Design District, so every day involves a real journey rather than a hop.
Causeway traffic
Getting on and off Miami Beach runs through a small number of causeways, which saturate during event weeks and have no alternative.
The social programme is the other half
Dinners, yacht events and parties across Miami Beach and Brickell generate as much car movement as the circuit itself, late into the night.
May heat and storms
Afternoon thunderstorms are common and move quickly. Covered door-to-door matters.
