Preakness Stakes
Preakness sits two weeks after the Derby and draws a crowd split between the grandstand and the infield, which behave like two different events with two different transport patterns.
Pimlico is in a residential part of northwest Baltimore. Street parking is restricted on race day and the surrounding roads are not built for the volume, which makes drop-off planning the whole game.
Getting Around Preakness Stakes
Park Heights Avenue is the pinch point
The approach runs through residential streets with race-day restrictions and resident-only zones. Where a car can legally stop changes on the day.
Infield and grandstand are different events
They use different gates and different crowds leave at different times. Tell us which you hold so we stage at the right side.
Washington and DC traffic
A large share of the crowd drives up from the DC area on the morning of, which loads the I-95 and Baltimore-Washington Parkway corridors before the first race.
Dress and weather
Mid-May in Maryland can be hot or wet. As with the Derby, formalwear and long walks do not mix.

Can you collect us from Washington?
Yes. A car up from DC and back the same evening is a common Preakness booking, quoted as a day arrangement.
Where will we be picked up afterwards?
At a point agreed when you book, chosen around the day's closures — not wherever the crowd happens to be standing.
Do you cover the infield entrance?
Yes, but tell us at booking: the infield and grandstand use different gates and different approaches.
