Austin City Limits Music Festival
ACL takes place in Zilker Park, which is unusually close to downtown Austin — close enough that many attendees assume transport will be simple. It is not, because the roads immediately around the park close and the whole crowd funnels through a few points.
The festival runs over two weekends in October, and the surrounding bar and venue programme keeps downtown busy well after the park empties.

Barton Springs Road closes
The roads bordering Zilker are restricted during the festival, so drop-off happens at designated points and you walk the last stretch.
Close to downtown, still slow
The short distance misleads people. At open and close, the surrounding streets move slowly in both directions.
Lady Bird Lake splits the city
Crossings over the lake are limited, which concentrates traffic onto a few bridges at exactly the wrong moments.
October is still warm
Afternoons are hot and the park is open ground. The walk back to a distant car is longer than it looks.
